Starcraft II Cupcakes

Starcraft II Protoss cupcake

I made these SCII Protoss cupcakes for my brother-in-law’s birthday (see previous mention in our gifts post), and they’re surprisingly easy to recreate! You can also use the same basic steps to make other 2D shapes from chocolate or candy melts. I didn’t think that such a specific project — cupcakes for a certain race within a video game — would be so popular, but I’ve had a few requests for more details, so here we go!

Starcraft II Protoss cupcake

Supplies:
Wax paper
Printout of the desired shape at the proper size, preferably repeated
Bag of candy melts
M&M’s
Ziplock or pastry bag
Decorating tip

1. Place symbol printout(s) underneath a sheet of wax paper.

2. Place some of the candy melts into a glass bowl and microwave according to directions on bag.

3. Insert decorating tip into ziplock or pastry bag and fill with melted candy.

4. Trace the symbol’s outline first, then fill shape with candy melt. It takes a little practice, so plan on making a few extras (see how bad my first one was!).

5. Add M&M (or other candy decorations), while the shape is still soft.

6. Let shapes set until hard. Remove them very carefully from the wax paper — they’re fragile!

7. Carefully poke shape into frosted cupcake. They don’t need to go too far in order to stand up, as they’re very lightweight.
