I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of board games, but I always seem to be surrounded by game-lovers. I do think Scrabble is tolerable. It’s a game where everyone’s attention is on the letters, and the graphic designer in me can at least appreciate that. I love the little wooden pieces and all the potential they have for nostalgia in the form of pendants and keychains. The easiest project, I think, is to make them into magnets.
If you’re lucky enough to find an old secondhand set (it seems that crafters and game-players alike always snatch them up at garage sales), you just need magnets and hot glue. If you want your words to hold papers and photos, use heavy-duty magnets. If not, you can just cut the magnetic strip that comes in a roll. Glue and go! You can just spell out a few words (we gave names as Christmas gifts), or you can do the whole set and use them to write phrases.
