Knob Wine Stoppers

Wine stoppers from cabinet knobs

I love the knobs and pulls at Anthropologie. LOVE. But my wallet is less excited, especially when it comes to projects like our dresser. 8 knobs x $10 = way more than we want to spend just sprucing up a hand-me-down (the knobs we ended up using were $2 at Home Depot). I do occasionally bring home an Anthro sale knob or two, though, and wine bottle stoppers are the perfect project to highlight them! Greg and I like to give them as gifts with a bottle of wine (and sometimes a custom wine label, if I get the chance).

Wine Stoppers

Supplies
Cork bottle stopper
Cabinet knob
Bolt cutters or hacksaw
Drill
Super glue

1. Using the bolt cutters or hacksaw, cut the metal thread of the cabinet knob so that it is 1/4″ to 1/2″ shorter than the cork stopper.

2. Mark a dot at the center of the large end of the cork stopper.

3. Beginning at this dot, drill a hole slightly narrower than the width of the cabinet knob metal thread most of the way through the cork stopper. Be careful not to drill all the way through.

4. Apply super glue into the hole and along the metal thread and bottom surface of the cabinet knob.

5. Insert the metal thread into the hole in the cork, turning it so that the threading grips the cork.

6. Let the glue dry, being careful to wipe off any excess glue.

  2. Rebecca,

I haven’t tried synthetic, but I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work!
