Glazed Magnets

Yosemite map magnet

I must have been extra good last year, because not only did I not get coal for Christmas, but I got magic fairy dust! It’s actually called Amazing Glaze, but it’s pretty much the same thing — magic. (Thanks, Aunt Gail!) Just sprinkle the powder over a surface, heat it up, and watch it turn into a hard clear bubble right before your eyes! My friend and I had lots of fun making map and scrapbook paper magnets (after first destroying a magnet by baking it!), and I can’t wait to try jewelry!

Supplies:
Paper (scrapbook, maps, etc.)
1/2″ to 1″ round magnets
Amazing Glaze embossing powder
Strong glue like E6000

Magnet and map

1. Trace magnet on the back of patterned paper.

2. Cut magnet shapes out of paper.

3. Set paper shapes on foil-covered baking sheet and sprinkle completely with Amazing Glaze.

4. Heat until transparent (just a few minutes). I used the “toast” setting in my toaster oven after finding the “bake” setting way too slow. Let cool.

5. Apply a thin layer of glue to the magnet and carefully set glazed paper on top.
