While you may be up to your elbows in flour, I doubt this is the holiday cookie recipe you’ve been looking for! But hey, if we can have Christmas in July, maybe we can bring a little July to Christmas?
I just wanted to share this method for turning your favorite sugar, shortbread or snickerdoodle cookies into sand dollars. My mother-in-law made them for my sister-in-law’s nautical shower, and they were an adorable beachy addition to our dessert table.
After cutting circles of your favorite dough (a glass makes a great substitute for a cookie cutter here), add five almond slivers to the top of each cookie in a star pattern. (It helps to have an image handy.) Then sprinkle the cookies with cinnamon and sugar (about 1/4 cup sugar + 1 tsp. cinnamon) and bake as usual.
The end result is a batch of cute and sandy cookies!
