There’s something about pirates and treasure hunts that appeals to the little boy in, well, every boy. Once we decided that the Vegas weekend we were giving Greg’s brother ought to be packaged as a treasure, I could hardly rein my husband in (and, left to his own devices, he’d still have his brother tramping around searching for clues… three months later).
Want to jazz up a boy gift, treasure-chest style? There are lots of easy ways:
1. “Wrap” the gift in a wooden box, preferably old. Tie it with rope.
2. Exchange money for gold $1 coins at your bank
3. Include an old map. (To make a new map look old, set it in a baking pan and cover it with strong coffee. After a few minutes, drain the coffee and put it in the sun to dry. Roll the edges.)
4. Break out the wax sealer (the one you haven’t seen since your wedding invites) and seal the card with wax.
And if your pirate likes to gamble, as ours (sorta) does, throw in a deck of cards and some poker chips. Colorful, easy and free!
